App Name: ZZZ Let's Read!
This Privacy Policy describes how "ZZZ Let's Read!" (the "App") handles information and how that information is used. Please read it carefully before using the App.
1. Our Approach
The App is built to respect your privacy to the greatest extent possible. Captured photos, recognized text, and saved receipt data handled by the App's core features are processed and stored entirely on your device and are never transmitted to any server operated by us.
As an exception, the App displays advertising via Google AdMob in order to monetize its operation. Information necessary for ad delivery (such as IP address and advertising identifiers) is sent to Google. See Section 6.2 "Google AdMob" and Section 6.3 "Google User Messaging Platform (UMP)" for details.
2. Information We Collect
The App uses the following information solely on your device.
2.1 Camera Images
- Captured by the device camera when you tap a capture button in Document mode or Receipt mode.
- Used to perform Optical Character Recognition (OCR) on books, documents, and receipts.
- All OCR processing runs entirely on the device through bundled offline models — image bytes are never transmitted to any server.
- Photos are written to the App's private cache directory and are removed when you return to the camera screen or uninstall the App.
2.2 Recognized Text and Receipt Data
- In Document mode, recognized text is held in memory while the result screen is visible and is discarded when you leave the screen.
- In Receipt mode, the extracted amount and date can be saved to a local CSV file at your discretion (the "Save" button).
- The CSV is stored only in the App's private internal storage and is removed when the App is uninstalled.
2.3 Device Locale (Country Code)
- The device's ISO-3166 country code is read solely to disambiguate ambiguous date and number formats (e.g., DD/MM vs MM/DD, comma vs period as the decimal separator).
- Used in memory only; not persisted, not transmitted.
3. How We Use Information
The information described above is used only for the following purposes.
- Performing on-device OCR on photos you capture.
- Saving and displaying extracted receipt amount/date in a local CSV at your request.
- Sharing the local CSV via the system Share Sheet when you tap the share button (the receiving app is your choice).
- Adjusting OCR result formatting (date order, decimal separator) based on device locale.
4. Where Data Is Stored
Camera images, recognized text, and the receipt CSV created by the App are stored only on your device.
- ✅ Stored in the App's private cache and internal storage.
- ❌ Not transmitted to any server operated by us.
- ❌ Not backed up to the cloud.
- ❌ No mechanism that allows the developer to access your data.
Note that data associated with advertising delivery via Google AdMob (such as IP address and advertising identifiers), as described in Section 6.2, is acquired and managed independently by Google and is handled separately from the App's on-device storage.
5. Sharing With Third Parties
The App itself never provides or sells any of the following information to third parties.
- Camera images
- Recognized text
- Receipt data (amount / date)
- Usage information within the App
- Information from the above that could identify an individual
However, in connection with advertising delivery via Google AdMob (described in Section 6.2), Google receives information such as your IP address and advertising identifiers. Google handles this data as part of its own services; the App cannot access the data Google obtains, and the App does not link this data with anything stored on your device when interacting with Google.
6. External Services
The App may perform limited external communication as described below. OCR itself runs fully offline and does not connect to the network.
6.1 Launching an External Browser
From the "About" screen inside the App, an external browser may be launched to display this privacy policy, license information, or open-source attribution pages. This works the same as tapping any ordinary hyperlink.
6.2 Google AdMob (Advertising)
To monetize the App's operation, the App displays banner and full-screen advertisements through Google AdMob, the advertising service provided by Google LLC.
- Information sent: IP address, advertising identifier (Android Advertising ID), device and OS information, ad-display and interaction signals, and other information required for ad delivery via Google AdMob.
- Information NOT sent: camera images, recognized text, receipt amount/date, the receipt CSV, and any other data stored on the device by the App.
- Purposes: ad delivery and rendering, frequency capping, attribution and measurement, fraud prevention.
- Controller: Google LLC.
- How Google handles this information: https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads
You can reset your advertising identifier or disable personalized advertising at any time from your device settings (Settings → Google → Ads). Users located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or regulated U.S. states are presented with the consent screen described in Section 6.3.
6.3 Google User Messaging Platform (UMP)
To comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and U.S. state privacy laws, the App uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP).
- Users located in the EEA, the United Kingdom, or regulated U.S. states are automatically presented with a consent form on first launch.
- Your consent choices are stored on your device and are reflected in Google AdMob's ad delivery (e.g., whether personalized ads may be served).
- You can change or withdraw your consent at any time from "Ad Privacy Options" on the "About" screen inside the App.
- For users outside the regions above, the UMP consent form is not shown and the "Ad Privacy Options" entry is not displayed.
7. Permissions Required
The App requests the following permissions.
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Camera | Capturing photos of books, documents, and receipts for on-device OCR. |
| Internet | Ad delivery via Google AdMob. OCR itself does not require network access. |
You can revoke any of these permissions at any time from your device settings. The App does not request location, microphone, contacts, notifications, or background-execution permissions.
8. What We Do Not Use
The App does not use any of the following.
- ❌ Analytics (Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, etc.)
- ❌ Crash reporting (Crashlytics, etc.)
- ❌ User authentication / login
- ❌ Social media integrations
- ❌ A backend server operated by us
- ❌ Cloud-based OCR or any other cloud processing of your images
- ❌ Location, microphone, contacts, or background-execution access
Note: the App uses Google AdMob for advertising. See Section 6.2 for details.
9. Data Deletion
When you uninstall the App, all data created by the App (cached photos, saved receipt CSV, etc.) is fully removed from your device. You can also delete saved receipt data at any time from the "Clear data" button in Receipt mode.
10. Children's Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13.
11. Open-Source Models and Credits
The OCR engine bundled with the App is built upon the following open-source assets, redistributed in compliance with their respective licenses.
- NDLOCR-Lite (Japanese OCR pipeline) — National Diet Library of Japan, CC BY 4.0.
- PARSeq scene-text recognition model — Apache License 2.0.
- PaddlePaddle PP-OCRv4 text detection model — Apache License 2.0.
The Android-native port of the recognition pipeline (Kotlin + ONNX Runtime Mobile) is the work of this App's developer.
12. Changes to This Policy
This Policy may be updated without prior notice. When material changes are made, we will notify you together with an App update.
13. Contact
For inquiries about this Policy, please contact us through the store page where the App is distributed.
