App Name: ZZZ Wake Up!
This Privacy Policy describes how "ZZZ Wake Up!" (the "App") handles information and how that information is used. Please read it carefully before using the App.
1. Our Approach
The App is built to respect your privacy to the greatest extent possible. Location data, saved destinations, and usage information handled by the App's core features are processed entirely on your device and are never transmitted to any server operated by us.
As an exception, the App displays advertising through a third-party advertising network in order to support its operation as a free service. Information necessary for ad delivery (such as IP address and, when permitted by you via the App Tracking Transparency dialog, the iOS Advertising Identifier (IDFA)) is sent to that advertising provider. See Section 6.3 "Third-Party Advertising" and Section 6.4 "Consent Management for EU/UK/US Regulated Regions" for details.
2. Information We Collect
The App uses the following information solely on your device.
2.1 Location Data (GPS)
- Used to calculate the distance to your destination.
- Acquired in the background as well, in order to provide the proximity-alert feature.
- Never sent to any server or third party.
2.2 Destinations You Save
- Station name, latitude/longitude, and the label you assign.
- Stored only in on-device app storage.
2.3 Shared URLs
- The App processes URLs shared from external map applications via the iOS Share Sheet.
- Used solely to extract latitude and longitude.
- The URL itself is not stored.
2.4 App Settings
- Configuration values such as the alert radius.
- Stored only in on-device app storage.
3. How We Use Information
The information we collect is used only for the following purposes.
- Calculating the distance to your destination and triggering proximity alerts.
- Displaying, saving, and searching destinations you specify.
- Importing location data shared from external map applications.
4. Where Data Is Stored
Location data, saved destinations, settings, and other data acquired or created by the App are stored only on your device.
- ✅ Stored in on-device app storage.
- ❌ Not transmitted to any server operated by us.
- ❌ Not backed up to a cloud service we operate.
- ❌ No mechanism that allows the developer to access your data.
Note that data associated with advertising delivery (such as IP address and the IDFA), as described in Section 6.3, is acquired and managed independently by the third-party advertising provider and is handled separately from the App's on-device storage.
5. Sharing With Third Parties
The App itself never provides or sells any of the following information to third parties.
- Location data
- Destination data
- Usage information within the App
- Information from the above that could identify an individual
However, in connection with advertising delivery (described in Section 6.3), the third-party advertising provider receives information such as your IP address and (when allowed via App Tracking Transparency) the IDFA. That provider handles this data as part of its own services; the App cannot access the data the provider obtains, and the App does not combine this data with anything stored on your device when interacting with the provider.
6. External Services
The App may perform limited external communication as described below.
6.1 Resolving Shared Map URLs
When a shortened URL from an external map application is shared with the App, the App sends an HTTP request to that URL in order to follow the redirect and extract latitude and longitude.
- Data sent: only the shared URL itself.
- No location data or personal information is transmitted.
- Destinations: the domain of the shared URL.
6.2 Launching an External Browser
From the "About" screen inside the App, an external browser may be launched to display license information or data-source pages. This works the same as tapping any ordinary hyperlink.
6.3 Third-Party Advertising
To support the App as a free service, the App displays banner and full-screen advertisements through a third-party advertising network.
- Information sent: IP address, advertising identifier (iOS IDFA — only when you have allowed tracking via the App Tracking Transparency dialog), device and OS information, ad-display and interaction signals, and other information required for ad delivery.
- Information NOT sent: location data handled by the App, saved destinations, destination labels, and any other data stored on the device by the App.
- Purposes: ad delivery and rendering, frequency capping, attribution and measurement, fraud prevention.
- Controller: the third-party advertising provider, who handles this data under its own privacy policy.
You can reset your advertising identifier or disable personalized advertising at any time from Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising. You can also revoke or grant the App's tracking permission from Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Users located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or regulated U.S. states are presented with the consent screen described in Section 6.4.
6.4 Consent Management for EU/UK/US Regulated Regions
To comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and U.S. state privacy laws, the App presents a consent collection screen via the third-party advertising network's consent management mechanism.
- Users located in the EEA, the United Kingdom, or regulated U.S. states are automatically presented with a consent form on first launch.
- Your consent choices are stored on your device and are reflected in advertising delivery (e.g., whether personalized ads may be served).
- You can change or withdraw your consent at any time from "Ad Privacy Options" on the "About" screen inside the App.
- For users outside the regions above, the consent form is not shown and the "Ad Privacy Options" entry is not displayed.
7. Permissions Required (iOS)
The App requests the following permissions on iOS.
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Location Services (When In Use / Always) | Calculating distance to the destination, including continued monitoring while the App is in the background or the screen is locked. |
| Notifications | Alerting you when you approach the destination. |
| Tracking (App Tracking Transparency) | If allowed, enables personalized advertising. The App still works if you decline; non-personalized ads will be shown instead. |
You can revoke any of these permissions at any time from Settings → Privacy & Security, or from Settings → ZZZ Wake Up!.
8. What We Do Not Use
The App does not use any of the following.
- ❌ Analytics SDKs
- ❌ Crash reporting SDKs
- ❌ User authentication / login
- ❌ Social media integrations
- ❌ A backend server operated by us
Note: the App uses a third-party advertising network for advertising. See Section 6.3 for details.
9. Data Deletion
When you uninstall the App, all data created by the App (saved destinations, settings, etc.) is fully removed from your device.
10. Children's Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13.
11. Station Data Sources
The station data bundled with the App is a modified and reorganized derivative of the following open data.
- Japan: Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism — National Land Numerical Information (Railway data N02), distributed under the Government of Japan Standard Terms of Use 2.0.
- Europe: Trainline EU stations — ODbL.
- Asia, Oceania, and the Americas: © OpenStreetMap contributors — ODbL.
The processed CSV data is published separately under ODbL. Please see the "About" screen inside the App for details.
12. Changes to This Policy
This Policy may be updated without prior notice. When material changes are made, we will notify you together with an App update.
