Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 1, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how SMOLT STAGE, K.K. ("we", "us") handles personal information in connection with Zume Editor ("the Software") and this website. We collect as little as possible and never sell your personal information.
1. Who we are
SMOLT STAGE, K.K. is the provider of Zume Editor and the data controller for the information described here. You can reach us at support@smolt-stage.com.
2. Information we collect
a) Purchases
Payments are processed by Paddle, our authorized reseller and Merchant of Record. When you buy a subscription, Paddle collects and processes your payment details and billing information. We do not receive or store your full card details. From Paddle we receive order information needed to fulfil and support your purchase, such as your name, email address, country and the products you purchased.
b) License activation
To activate a paid license, the Software sends your license key and a non-identifying installation identifier ("machine id") to our activation service so we can issue and validate your license. This does not include your files or their contents.
c) Support
If you contact support, we receive the information you choose to send us (such as your email address and the details of your question).
d) The Software on your device
Zume Editor runs locally. By default it does not send usage telemetry. Application logs and crash reports are stored on your own device and are not transmitted to us unless you choose to send them. Any update check connects only to the update location you have configured (none by default).
e) This website
This site loads Paddle's checkout script (Paddle.js) to enable secure purchasing and standard web-server logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security and diagnostics.
3. How we use information
- to process your purchase, provide and validate your license, and deliver updates;
- to provide customer support and respond to your requests;
- to detect, prevent and address fraud, abuse or technical issues;
- to comply with legal and tax obligations.
4. Legal bases
Where applicable law (such as the GDPR) requires a legal basis, we rely on the performance of our contract with you (providing the Software and license), our legitimate interests (security, support and improving our products) and compliance with legal obligations.
5. Payment processing by Paddle
Our order process is conducted by Paddle, which is the Merchant of Record for your purchase and handles payment, billing, invoicing and tax. Paddle's handling of your information is governed by Paddle's own privacy policy, available at paddle.com/legal/privacy.
6. Sharing of information
We share information only with service providers who help us operate, such as Paddle (payments) and our hosting/email providers, and only as needed to provide the service or to comply with law. We do not sell your personal information.
7. International transfers
Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including by Paddle and our providers. Where required, appropriate safeguards are used for such transfers.
8. Data retention
We keep order and license information for as long as needed to provide the service and to meet legal, tax and accounting requirements, then delete or anonymize it.
9. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or export your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, email support@smolt-stage.com. For payment data held by Paddle, you can also contact Paddle directly.
10. Children
The Software is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above shows the current version.
