Terms of Service
Last updated: October 1, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your purchase and use of Zume Editor ("the Software"), a product of SMOLT STAGE, K.K. ("we", "us", "our"). By downloading, purchasing, activating or using the Software you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Software.
1. The Software
Zume Editor is a commercial desktop text, code and hex editor for Windows, macOS and Linux. We may add, change or discontinue features over time.
2. License grant
Subject to these Terms and an active subscription (or valid trial), we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Software for your own use. A single-user license is granted to one person and may be activated on up to three (3) computers that you own or control, across the supported operating systems (Windows, macOS and Linux), for use by that one person, including commercial use. If you replace a computer, you may deactivate it to free an activation slot. For use by more than one person, or on shared, server or multi-tenant machines, a license per user or a volume license is required — contact us.
3. Free trial
The Software may be used free of charge for a 30-day evaluation period that begins on first run. When the trial ends, continued use requires an active paid subscription.
4. Subscription, billing and renewal
- Zume Editor is offered as an annual subscription of USD $49 per user, per year (plus any applicable taxes).
- Payments are handled by our authorized reseller and Merchant of Record, Paddle. Your purchase is also subject to Paddle's buyer terms.
- Subscriptions renew automatically each year unless cancelled before the renewal date. You may cancel at any time; see our Refund & Cancellation Policy.
- Prices may change for future billing periods; we will give reasonable notice of any change.
5. Refunds
We offer a 14-day money-back guarantee. Refund and cancellation details are in our Refund & Cancellation Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
6. License activation
To enable paid features the Software may validate your license. This can involve a one-time online activation and periodic re-validation. We do not use this to collect your file contents. See our Privacy Policy for what data is involved.
7. Acceptable use and restrictions
You agree not to:
- copy, resell, sublicense, rent or redistribute the Software or your license, except as expressly permitted;
- circumvent, disable or tamper with licensing, activation or security features;
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the Software, except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits despite this limitation;
- use the Software for any unlawful purpose or in violation of third-party rights.
8. Intellectual property
The Software and all related intellectual property are owned by SMOLT STAGE, K.K. and its licensors. These Terms grant you a license to use the Software, not ownership of it. Files, documents and other content you create or edit remain yours.
9. Third-party and open-source components
The Software includes third-party and open-source components, each under its own license. Those licenses continue to apply to those components. The Software does not copy any third-party product's proprietary source or assets.
10. Updates
While your subscription is active you are entitled to updates we release for the Software. Updates are provided under these Terms.
11. Disclaimer of warranty
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that the Software will be uninterrupted or error-free. You are responsible for keeping backups of your important data.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, SMOLT STAGE, K.K. will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits or business, arising out of or related to the Software. Our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to the Software will not exceed the amount you paid for the Software in the twelve (12) months before the event giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
13. Termination
These Terms apply while you use the Software. We may suspend or terminate your license if you materially breach these Terms. On termination you must stop using the Software. Sections that by their nature should survive (for example intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability and governing law) survive termination.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date above shows the current version. Material changes will be communicated by reasonable means; continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. The courts located in Japan will have jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rights in your country of residence.
